Customer behavior
People in St. Petersburg tend to describe a place by district, not by city. The city spreads over about 62 square miles with 4,196 residents per square mile, well above the 2,494 of the typical Florida city, and local guides divide downtown alone into eight named districts. Storms are the biggest swing in demand. Hurricanes Helene and Milton both affected the city in 2024, Helene's surge passed six feet and left more than 100 miles of roads underwater, and Pinellas County counted 364 businesses damaged or destroyed. Milton flooded some neighborhoods outside the mapped flood zones, so more people suddenly searched for restoration and drainage help. For restoration, roofing, tree and repair companies, that argues for campaigns that sit ready, with ads and landing pages written in advance, budgets that can rise within hours and honest wording about availability.
Pay-per-click advertising for St. Petersburg companies also meets a crowded county backdrop in some fields. Pinellas County has 1,081 real estate offices (4.52 times the typical county density, up 43.8%), 1,056 physician offices (2.73 times), 810 law offices (2.93 times, a count that has slipped slightly) and 484 dentists (1.81 times). Raymond James Financial is headquartered here, and the city's economic development site calls financial services the largest employment sector.
